I forgot to give my son Steve the biggest kudos for getting our computers back on line. Steve heroically stopped by on his way home from work yesterday even though he needed to get home because he was going to a National's Baseball game. What a sweet son! I had tried but I just couldn't get the modem/wireless router to work with Mr-P's computer or mine. I needed reinforcements and Steve came to the rescue. Let it be proclaimed through out the nation that Steve has earned a gold star!

Don't Believe It

They say lightning doesn't strike twice in the same spot. Don't believe it. Our house has taken three indirect hits by lightning over the years, I say indirect simply because we have had no holes blown in the roof. This is the third time we have had things like TV's, telephones, computers etc get fried because of lightning. I think our home owners insurance company is going to get tired of hearing from us. I should check our roof, maybe there is a big bulls eye up there. On July 4th we had fire works all right, we heard a extreemly loud crack of thunder and a very bright light and instantly we had no electric or phone. I give the electric company kudos they came out and fixed the problem at the pole right away and the electric was back on but the phone company didn't get around to fixing the phone line until today. I have been suffering a severe case of computer withdrawal. I can't bad mouth the phone company too much though, they did manage to get a new modem here on the same day they fixed the phone. Being back online has made me happy.

Mom's 80th Birthday Party

Mom's Birthday 004

Saturday we had a birthday party for my mom. The weather cooperated, no thunderstorms. Mom really enjoyed being loved on by all the family. I never did a head count but I would guess around fifty people were there. We had the party at my sister's house. The food was yummy - fried chicken, honey baked ham, sliced turkey,rolls, potato salad, pasta salad chips, baked beans and lots more. I think everyone had a very good time. I saw some grand nieces and nephews for the first time. I think this was the first time so many of the family were together at one time.

Hitting The Road Again

Work is done! Heading back to Maryland tomorrow morning. It haves been wonderful spending time with my sister and mom. We have done some reminiscing, eating out and almost continuous laughing (a merry heart doeth good like a medicine!) and a little work.

Coming and Going.

The "P's" are coming back from Florida Friday evening and this "P" is going to Florida Saturday. My sister and I are flying down and driving back with mom and little Buddy, (Oh no) just kidding, mom. I'll be finishing closing up my house while I'm there. When we left in April I didn't put everything away that could be blown around in the yard in case of a bad storm, so some work will be involved, not all pleasure. I'm sure it will be a fun time because it always is when my sister, mom and I get together. I know when I get back on the 21st Buddy will have given me some new blog material. Latest Buddy info - he chewed one of mom's shoes in half, knocked over and broke plant pot, oh, and accidentally bit moms hand when they were playing. I sure hope he likes riding in a car for a day and a half. We shall see.

Mom is Right Again!

A few days ago my boys and I were discussing two bushes that had been on the side of my house. A long time ago the bushes had to be removed because of work on our septic tank. I don't even remember how the conversation got started but nun the less I was right. This is what the conversation (disagreement) was about.

Bridal Spirea

Forsythia

The boys were trying to tell me the two bushes next to the side of the house were Forsythia but no, they were Bridal Spirea. I just talked to my Mom to confirm this and we all know if one mom says its right then if two moms say its so, then that's it and that's all, were right!

E-mail from grandma-L : The bushes had white flowers. I'm pretty sure they were called Bridal Wreath a white lacy flower, there was two of them on the east side corner of the house. Love Mom

One of the other reasons I'm so sure I'm right is I have lived on this property since I was eleven. The house belonged to my grandfather and when my parents moved here we lived in a mobile home in the back yard. My parents later bought the house and property from my grandfather and later my husband and I bought it from my mom so I am very familiar with this house and yard.

So there you have it, mom is right again!

Lazy

Sorry, I've been having "Brain Cramps" when it comes to blogging, but I thought you all would enjoy this e-mail a friend sent me. An interesting fact about my friend - we were really good friends in high school but lost contact after graduation. On December 7, 2007 I get an e-mail with the subject line "Wow, fourty years ago there were two cute girls", it was really wonderful hearing from her after all these years. Through the years I had thought of her often and had even tried doing a people search, but its hard to find someone when you don't know their last name. I'm glad she found me.

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
with their tedious diatribes about how hard things
were when they were growing up; what with walking
twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill
BOTH ways

yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
there was no way I was going to lay a bunch of garbage like that on kids about how hard I had it
and how easy they've got it!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you
don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the
Internet . If we wanted to know something,
we had to go to the darn library and
look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write
somebody a letter with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and
put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to
get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to
steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record
store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the
radio and the DJ' d usually talk over the
beginning and mess it all up!

We didn't have fancy stuff like Call Waiting! If you
were on the phone and somebody else called they got a
busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was!
It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your
bookie , your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!
You had to pick it up and take your chances.

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games
with high-resolution 3-D graphics!
We had the Atari 2600!
With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'. Your
guy was a little square!
You actually had to use your imagination!!
And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was
just one screen forever!

And you could never win.
The game just kept getting harder and harder and
faster and faster until you died!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing
as stadium seating!
All the seats were the same height!
If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in
front of you and you couldn't see, tough!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that
was only like 15 channels and there was no on screen
menu and no remote control!
You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to
find out what was on!
No channel surfing!
You had to get off your back-side and walk over to the TV to
change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You
could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear me?

We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled
little brats!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
something up we had to use the stove.

If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy
Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about!
You kids today have got it too easy.
You're spoiled.
You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in
1980! or earlier!
